Summary
This extended degree course equips students with the essential knowledge and skills to successfully proceed to the three year BMus (Hons) course. The primary focus is on Performance Studies, which forms the core module throughout the degree. This includes the very important aspects of composition, as well as vocal training and instrumental study on Sikh instruments (strings and percussion) in a variety of Indian styles, from folk to dhrupad. The course is taught by the Raj Academy’s world renowned experts in Sikh and Indian music.

Entry criteria
40 UCAS Tariff points.
Applicants should have 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Music and English Language or English Literature. Other qualifications and experience, will be considered. Applicants should also have achieved Grade 6 in their principal instrument.

Composition - composers must provide a portfolio of compositions. Written scores are essential. Recordings on their own are not acceptable.
Performance - performers wishing to study Performance will be expected to attend an audition.

Interview
All applicants to this course will be interviewed or auditioned. - Instrumentalists and singers: a 10-12 minute performance on first study of two contrasting pieces or three songs, and sight-reading/singing - Composers: the submission of a portfolio of works prior to the audition (including recordings if applicable) and a viva voce of 15 minutes based on this work - Conductors: conducting two contrasting works with piano or submitting a video of previous performances, score-reading.
On course completion

Career progression
Completion of the full BMus (Hons) course will enable students to pursue careers in performing, composing, teaching, writing, music therapy, research, music/arts management and music theatre.
